The Raiders are headed to Indiana next week to likely face their decade-long, post-season rival Marian (2014 football, 2015 football, 2016 women’s basketball, 2018 softball, 2019 volleyball) in the opening round of the 2024 NAIA Softball World Series. Although the coaches have Marian at #8, SOU at #17, and Middle Georgia State at #24, Massey Ratings (an unbiased computer that considers things like strength of schedule) disagrees. Massey has Southern Oregon as the top team in this group at #9, Marian at #13, and Middle Georgia State at #21.

Marian has a better record than SOU, but they have yet to face any team in Massey’s Top 20. (Notice the SoS column in the above graphic.) The Raiders, on the other hand, are 7-15 against Massey’s Top 20. Take those games away and SOU is 30-2, much better than Marian’s 44-10.

Massey gives SOU a 58% chance of beating Marian @ Marian and a 74% chance against Middle Georgia State (who the Raiders must beat in order face Marian).

Kennedy Kila leads the Raiders in slugging percentage @ .720
