It’s not everyday that you get the chance to stand on the roof of a two-story, Victorian Italianate house built in 1883 near downtown Ashland. When that opportunity affords itself on a day (near the end of autumn) when half the town is getting rained on and the other half is under a bright blue sky you count yourself lucky. Today’s photo is about a 300 degree panorama I photomerged together. For loads more details click on the above image. Depending on your browser you may want to click on it again for even more detail. See if you can find the Ashland Springs Hotel, Wagner Butte, the Historic Ashland Armory, and Grizzly Peak. It has been a full year since David Grubbs was murdered on Ashland’s bike path as he walked home from work at Shop’n Kart. I remember the evening of November 19, 2011 and the subsequent days well. The police haven’t arrested anyone yet, but they did do some searches this past week in conjunction with this ongoing case.

Southern Oregon University campus on a foggy morning

As I mentioned on my other blog, I picked up a new Nikon D600 last week. After a few test shots to see if there was any dust or oil on the sensor direct from the factory (there wasn’t), this was my very first pic with my new camera body. It was a foggy morning on the SOU campus when I took this picture.

This past Tuesday evening I had the privilege to witness SOU’s sister university in South Korea, Dankook University, put on a traditional Korean dance performance in the Music Recital Hall on the SOU campus. Apparently, they also did this show at Oregon State University (OSU) the day before or after.

The costumes and performance were so stunning that I’ll post some more images from this event in the future as well under this link.

I’m hoping to teach at DKU in Seoul next summer.

I have mentioned before how bad the lighting can be at the Historic Rogue Theatre in Grants Pass. I wasn’t even going to take photos at last night’s Floater show if the lighting was no different. However, a Eugene company was hired by Floater to liven things up a bit, and they did a fantastic job. More photos soon…
