Lithia Park’s Ashland Creek
On tonight’s First Friday Art Walk I saw the most amazing photo of Ashland Creek. I need to find that spot in Lithia Park. Saturday’s weather forecast isn’t great, but maybe I’ll try then if things aren’t too bad.
I took this photo early last month near the part of Granite Street where the pavement turns into dirt. Now that May has arrived and many more leaves are on the trees I’ll have to go back for another look.
Behind Carpenter Hall
This was the scene behind Carpenter Hall (home of the OSF Box Office) last week.
Anyone know the name of this tree with the gigantic purple and white flowers that blooms this time of year?
Hula dancers at the SOU Hawaii Club Luau
Yuki, from Waseda University, was in pretty much every dance and did a fine job. I would have never guessed that she hadn’t done any hula dancing before this year.
Maori Kapa Haka
Even though this was a Hawaiian Luau, put on by the SOU Hawaii Club, not all of the dances were from Hawaii. In fact, I think more than half were from elsewhere. The photos in today’s post are from the final performance of the evening. I think it was called the Kapa Haka.
The above picture may look like a poorly taken photo (because it was thanks to the poor lighting conditions at the beginning of the dance), but it actually captures the feeling of the dance quite well.
SOU Luau
Unfortunately, I forgot to bring home the program from the luau put on by Southern Oregon University’s Hawaii Club. Therefore, I can’t correctly label these pictures as to what the dances were called or who the participants were. This photo is from the couples’ dance that was performed by the soon-to-be-graduating seniors.

Saturday night was Luau night at SOU. My view was nearly always obstructed, but I’ll post some shots from the great show over the next few days anyway.

Photos can’t capture the magnificence of Crater Lake. How can such an unnatural looking blue be so natural?
Easter
I’ve been having problems with my monitor these past few days. The colors are out of whack so I can’t process any photos. I’m hoping a new video card will do the trick. The first one I purchased was a “low profile” graphics card. I didn’t know that low profile means it doesn’t fit my standard desktop. So today I sent it back, and it may be another week before the correct size comes in.
Until then I’ll dip into the archives. Today’s photo isn’t from that long ago, this past Sunday to be exact, just before my colors went bad. Someone had finished their Easter mimosa (except the strawberry) and the light was coming through the window at brunch just right.
