Last night was opening night in Medford. The Rogues began the season as they ended last year’s championship season, with another victory. Most importantly, the beer batter on the Lincoln Potters struck out in the 1st, allowing fans to buy $3 beers early on.

Last night there was a rather spectacular storm in Southern Oregon. I didn’t have my camera with me so I had to settle for this short video with my phone. We had our first softball practice of the year. With the rainbow and lightning striking all over the place, it was awesome.
Snowy Medford from the air
I’ve flown into Medford dozens of times over the years (usually after dark), but two days ago, on our way back from Las Vegas (Sedona and the Grand Canyon), was the first time I’ve seen Medford look anything like this on an aerial approach.

Two years ago today, this was the view as the chartered plane taking the SOU football team to Daytona, Florida was about to leave the earth.

The Medford Rogues will be paying tribute to the former Medford A’s on June 4 by wearing throwback uniforms. Fireworks will follow the game.
As a huge A’s fan since birth (the A’s moved to Oakland the year I was born, and I was born just a few miles from the Oakland Coliseum), it was extremely disappointing to me that the A’s no longer had an affiliate in Medford when I moved to Ashland in 2000. Next Saturday night I can pretend I’m watching the Medford A’s.
Darin Kracl was one of my best friends growing up. We cut school once or twice to catch an A’s game. I’m still jealous that he got to pitch for them.

Hey, SOU people. I know some of you check this blog on a daily basis. I haven’t seen this announced anywhere online or via campus email, but I saw a flyer on campus (even though the campus is mostly empty) saying tonight (7/15/15) is Southern Oregon University night with the Medford Rogues. You can get in for $2, hot dogs for $2, beer for $2, etc. with your SOU ID. Game time is 6:35. The weather should be as nice as last night (pictured above).
Try not to turn it into another 10 Cent Beer Night riot. 😉
