I missed the peak fall colors on campus this year as I was in Mexico. However, this tree, between Central Hall and Churchill Hall, goes a little later than the rest.

You can find this place a few hours from Ashland in the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument. The trail for this view is called the Blue Basin Overlook Trail.

This year is the 50th year of partnership between the cities of Ashland, Oregon and Guanajuato, Mexico. I happen to be in Mexico at the moment, teaching at the University of Guanajuato. A few days ago I took a bus from the center of Guanajuato to the bus station (so that I could change buses and head to San Miguel de Allende). I was surprised to see a giant mural of Ashland out the bus window on the left. So yesterday I headed back to that location for a closer look. Behind the mural was this plaque commemorating the 30 year anniversary. Photos of the mural coming here soon…
Pre-storm autumn sunrise
Last week’s sunrise before a day of, at times, heavy rain couldn’t have been much better–especially with our Japanese maples beginning to show off their fall colors.

We spent the past weekend near Smith Rock in Central Oregon. Today’s photo comes from a short break we took on the way home. 70 degrees, no people, and a faint smell of campfire to go along with the fresh, mountain air.
