Another big game this Saturday

Last weekend’s loss at Carroll hurt, but it will mean little if the Raiders beat Eastern this weekend and Carroll in October in Ashland. It’s better to win your last game than your first.
Take last season for example. Carroll and SOU split the regular season series (and neither team had lost to any other team at the time), but Carroll was ranked four spots ahead of SOU after winning the game over SOU later in the season.

I slapped my Raiders Gameday! magnet on this truck before the Ashland 4th of July Parade a couple months ago and haven’t seen it since. I hope it is put to good use. I could use it today, actually, at the tailgate in Helena. Or maybe a Carroll fan would steal it here in Montana. In any event, you want to watch today’s game. The SOU volleyball team ran their record to 4-0, including a defeat of another ranked team today. Previously 3-0 Hastings (ranked #22) was the first team to take the Raiders to five sets, but in the end Southern Oregon prevailed. Laura Morse had 8 digs, 7 kills, and a .462 hitting percentage in the earlier victory over Bellevue.

The #16-ranked Raiders got off to a quick start of the season defeating Menlo 25-23, 25-17, 25-14 and then upsetting #8-ranked Vanguard 26-24, 23-25, 25-17, 25-20 today on the road.
The first game in Ashland is on September 4.

We are currently in Seaside, Oregon for the 34th Annual Seaside Beach Volleyball Tournament. Today’s photo comes from our drive to Seaside. We decided to take Highway 38 (between Roseburg and Reedsport) because we never had before. Along the way we saw a couple fields on the left side of the highway (the right side was the Umpqua River) with elk.

After a week of activity, the Japanese football players will be heading home today. I hope they had a good time despite the smoke of the past few days. Maybe I should plan to join the team that goes to Japan from Ashland in two years.
