2013 Ashland Independent Film Festival – Historic Ashland Armory

Today’s photo is a reverse angle, taken a few hours earlier, of what I posted a couple days ago. I took this before the showing of “Ritual” (a short documentary) and “SPARK: A Burning Man Story.”

Historic Ashland Armory all cleaned up and ready for another day of films

I was a volunteer photographer at this year’s AIFF. The project consumed more of my time than I was expecting, but one of the rewards was being able to see things that typical attendees of the festival miss. One of those things is what the Ashland Armory looks like at midnight, after the final showing of the day, after being cleaned up and prepared for the next day of events.

Today’s pics are from last Friday night. Tonight at Club 66 the audience, including me, will be treated to some traveling metal. Come on out to hear Facinorous. They are supposed to start at 8 p.m., and I hope they do as I have to wake up early tomorrow morning.

I wasn’t able to stick around for Twice Born Gypsies after FatherDoug on Friday night as the show started late, and I couldn’t stay past about 11:30. Hopefully they will play Club 66 again soon, and next time it would be nice if they begin before the next day does.

28 photo photomerge SOU softball

Most of my photomerges are in the three-to-five photo range. Sometimes they are just two photos. However, I like to try new things. So at last Saturday’s SOU softball game I set my D600 to “Ch” for continuous high speed shooting. The sky was overcast so I went with 1/4000, f/8, ISO-2000. If it was sunnier I would have went with something like 1/4000, f/11, ISO-800. Next time if it is overcast I think I will try something more along the lines of 1/1000, f/10, ISO-1600.

Anyway, I then focused on the batter at 70mm from behind first base. When she connected I immediately began firing as I turned my camera toward right field. Twenty eight photos (and about four seconds) later I was done shooting. The photomerged result can be seen above. After the photomerge my file size was almost 3 GB for what had become a single photo! I resized it and did a bit of editing to get it down to about the 1 MB image I uploaded. Click on the photo for the more detailed 1 MB version and to have it fill your screen.
