Rogue Brewery

Rogue Ales (aka Rogue Brewery) began in Ashland back in the 1980s. They are now located in Newport, Oregon (nowhere near the Rogue Valley or the Rogue River), but they have kept the name. Today’s photo is from their location in the Portland Airport (Rogue Ales at the Portland Airport (PDX)).

Floater @ OIT

Rob Wynia of Floater

I headed over the Green Springs on Highway 66 last night with my son and his friend to see Floater perform at Oregon Tech (OIT) in Klamath Falls. I have never really been to Klamath Falls before even though it less than two hours from Ashland. I have been through it a few times, but the last time was probably five years ago. So this was my first time on the OIT campus. Floater basically played at the end of the hallway in the student union building, not your typical concert venue.

The stage was only a foot off the ground (if that), there were no spot lights, and strong sunlight was coming in through the blinds behind the band for the first few songs so conditions and lighting were really poor for photography or for just seeing the band (as you’ll especially note in the video at the end).

The crowd was enthusiastic and appreciative. That’s my son, Ryan, in the middle there (with all of the hair) trying to get a mosh pit going. I’m proud to say he succeeded.

I’ll process a few more photos of Floater from last night and post them tomorrow.

Multnomah Falls

We didn’t end our bike ride at Mutnomah Falls, but our week of photos is over so I better get the most famous part of this ride in. Above is the “classic view” of the double-tiered falls, complete with the bridge you can walk on between them.

Ryan jumping in a waterfall on the Paulina Plunge tour

As previously mentioned, we had a little summer adventure in and around Bend, Oregon a couple weeks ago. The “Paulina Plunge Tour” had us hop in a bus at the Sun River Resort, drive a while, and be given a bike to begin things off. We rode about 6 miles (90%+ downhill) during the day and stopped at three waterfalls. Today’s photo is of Ryan jumping in at the base of the first waterfall.

Happy family ready for their shakes and malts at Fish Lake

After the news from yesterday’s entry, we got in the car and drove back to Fish Lake in order to obtain those longed-for malts and shakes. Here we are perched on the deck of the Fish Lake Resort waiting for our orders with Fish Lake in the background. Thus ends this series on the trail between Lake of the Woods and Fish Lake.

Happy Father’s Day!

toad in the hole french toast with egg in the middle

My wonderful kids made me breakfast this morning for father’s day–milk, fruit, and french toast with an egg in the middle which I had never had before. Apparently it is called “Egg in the Basket” or “Toad in the Hole.”

I tried out my new 24mm prime lens (Nikon Wide Angle AF Nikkor 24mm f/2.8D Autofocus Lens) on this shot, and I like the results. It’s very sharp, with no noise, even with the mixed lighting of mostly shadows. This little lens will definitely go in the bag for my trip to Europe later this week.

Mother’s Day in Scenic Park

Today’s photo is from Mother’s Day a few weeks back. This is what you are supposed to do with your mom on her special day. The place was Ashland’s newest park, Scenic Park near the Ashland Hospital.

Hula dancers at the SOU Hawaii Club Luau

Yuki, from Waseda University, was in pretty much every dance and did a fine job. I would have never guessed that she hadn’t done any hula dancing before this year.

15th Annual Ho’opa’a Hawaii Club Luau

Saturday night was Luau night at SOU. My view was nearly always obstructed, but I’ll post some shots from the great show over the next few days anyway.
