Mt. Fuji from Kofu

Please excuse today’s lack of photo quality as this came from about five years ago in my pre-DSLR days. Last time I was in Kofu I had a DSLR, but it was far too humid to see Mt. Fuji. I need to go back. Anyone have any ideas how I can make that happen this summer?

Summer festivals in Japan

Japanese party signs

While wandering through my old neighborhood in Tokyo a little over a year ago I noticed these signs for the 2013 version of the Bon Odori I went to in 2009 and the matsuri I went to that same year. Unfortunately, I wasn’t going to be in Tokyo long enough to experience either of them again. Instead, I ended up at this place.

The poster on the right is for the 2020 Summer Paralympics which will also take place in Tokyo. That announcement came down shortly after I took this photo.

Yomiuri Land’s SL Coaster

SLコースター

Beginning in 1988 Yomiuri Land (よみうりランド) had a roller coaster, mostly for kids, called the SL Coaster which traversed this small lake. Before that (from the time it was built in 1966 until 1988) it was called the Jet Shooter (ジェットシューター). My kids were riding it when I took this photo in 2010, but the ride was permanently closed just a year later in 2011.

Summers in Japan can be brutally hot and humid. When the sun drops the temperature doesn’t decrease much, but not being in the sun anymore is a welcome relief. Such was the case when I was heading towards Kofu 甲府市 from Kai 甲斐 on this evening. I ended up eating at this udon place nearby before making it to Kofu.
