Mickey Morabito – director of team travel (previously referred to as traveling secretary) for the Oakland A’s

I have always been rather fascinated by people who alter their appearance in ridiculously fake ways. It doesn’t matter if the alteration is to their boobs, face (cosmetic surgery or stage-level thickness of makeup for everyday use), or hair; I just can’t get over how unnatural and strange these alterations look.

I think this fascination may go back to my early teenage years and this man, Mickey Morabito. I would hang out with a bunch of friends at the Oakland Coliseum in the early 1980s, and we had loads of time to kill. We would do so, in part, by talking about what Mickey’s “hair” would look like when he showed up for work on that day.

Flash forward 30 years… I hadn’t followed the A’s that closely during the 90s and 00s–especially when it came to the executives. So when I saw Mickey poke his head out of the A’s dugout during the pregame warmups in Anaheim in 2012 I had to smile when I saw his strange taste in toupees (hairpieces, wigs, whatever you want to call them) hadn’t changed over the decades. You’d think that with a job for a baseball team, you’d opt for a more natural look, like a baseball cap, or just show off your bald head now that people like Bruce Willis, Michael Jordan, and Patrick Stewart have made the bald look rather popular. But, no, Mickey will be sporting a fancy hair hat until the end.

Female Korean baseball cheerleaders

I previously posted the head, male cheerleader for the KIA Tigers. Today I bring you the four female cheerleaders. This seems to be the standard for all of the pro baseball teams in Korea–1 male who does the talking and 4 females who do the dancing.

The A’s traded Blevins to Washington for Billy Burns yesterday. I’m guessing that Billy Beane just liked Burns’ name.

Jemile Weeks, no longer a member of the Oakland A’s

Jemile Weeks exploded on the baseball scene in 2011, winning the MLB Rookie of the Month Award during his first month in the bigs. He quickly became a fan favorite. However, despite flashes of greatness from time to time, he didn’t produce much thereafter. By the end of 2012 he was back in the minors where he spent most of 2013.

The A’s parted ways with him this past week by trading him to Baltimore. In exchange the A’s received closer Jim Johnson who will hopefully do as good or better than departing free agent Grant Balfour.

@PatNeshek Pat Neshek collects baseball cards and autographs. Too bad I no longer live close to the Oakland Coliseum or we’d have to hook up and make some trades.
