I loved the hat on the dancing man in the middle of today’s photo. I took this picture at the Nishikubo Hachiman Jinja Summer Festival (西久保八幡神社例大祭[夏祭り2013]) in Tokyo this past August.

More interesting than the fireworks at a summer festival in Japan are the crowds before and after. The people are all in a great mood, and the vendors sell some interesting things. Today’s photo is of one such saleslady. This picture was taken at the 日本ライン夏まつり納涼花火大会. The Japanese girl pictured was demonstrating the whistle sound this toy filled with water can make.

In just over two weeks I will be back in Japan. I won’t get to visit my old stomping grounds near Waseda University until August, but when pics like the one above come up as my desktop image of the day I feel 懐かしい.

I once bookmarked a webpage that had all of the Japanese festivals listed on it by region and date. Does anyone know what URL I’m talking about? I’d like to catch a festival or two while in Japan this summer.

Today’s photo comes from Kofu (甲府市) in Yamanashi Prefecture (山梨県). I’m thinking about paying Kofu another visit this August. The Takeda Shingen Festival won’t be happening at that time, but I still love the place.
