University of Guanajuato’s DCEA Campus

I learned this past week that weather.com is not to be trusted when it comes to weather in Guanajuato. The forecast just before I left the USA was for highs in the 80s, lows in the 60s, and a few sprinkles the entire 10 days I’m in Mexico. When I arrived the streets were flooding from extreme amounts of rain. The rain was incredible for my first two days here. The revised forecast is for highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s. Too bad I didn’t prepare for such temperatures.

Today’s photo comes from the end of the storms. Weather.com said we had a 100% chance of rain yesterday afternoon and evening, yet there was no rain and the skies were beautiful.

Coors Field sunset – Rockies vs. Cubs (Denver, Colorado)

I’m on my way to Mexico today. I stopped off in Denver for a night on the way to catch a Rockies game. This was my first time at Coors Field. It was a typical Rockies game, with the worst team in the National League (Colorado) putting 13 runs on the board against the second worst team in the league (Chicago Cubs).

Diorama in Hakata Machiya Folk Museum (Fukuoka, Japan)

I read a good chunk of Samurai Revolution when I was the passenger on our way to and from Portland this past weekend. I just finished an exciting part of the book (about when Satsuma and Choshu formed their alliance in 1866).

Reading about the Five Banished Nobles (including the future Prime Minister of Japan, Sanjo Sanetomi 三条実美), and how they bid their time in Dazaifu, reminded me of this photo. Because immediately after taking this picture, a retired Japanese history professor struck up a conversation with me and before I knew it he was escorting me to Dazaifu.

Now I feel like I need to return to Japan to check out some more spots mentioned in Samurai Revolution which I have yet to visit. Also, I will be able to ask some more educated questions of my retired Japanese history professor since I more fully understand the history of this part of Japan. And yet there’s so much more fascinating history that I could never fully consume in my lifetime.
