Ashland, Oregon with a storm brewing
After the snowshoeing adventure mentioned yesterday, I headed down Dead Indian Memorial Road into what looked like a pending storm. The storm fizzled.
The bump in the distant center is the backside of Pompadour Bluff. I’ll have to post a more close up version of Ashland side of Pompadour Bluff soon.
180 degree panorama of Buck Prairie Nordic Trail in the snow
I headed up Dead Indian Memorial Road to Buck Prairie yesterday. The clouds were thick, but for a few minutes on the trail, there was a bit of blue when I took today’s photo. This panorama is actually 9 vertical pictures stitched together into a horizontal landscape. I was trying out my new snowshoes, but most people out yesterday were on cross country skis as you can see from the tracks in the snow.

Lithia Park snow – Ashland, Oregon
We drove up to the White Rabbit trailhead parking lot a couple days ago to hike to the end of the Lamb Mine Cave off of Ashland Loop Road. There was lots of snow and I was wishing I had brought along my snow shoes that I received for Christmas. The sun came out at times and, with it, large quantities of snow fell from the trees making a lovely, winter landscape.
From the archives today… this one is from July of 2009. During the winter months I need images like these to get me through.
Ashland, Oregon panorama
Last week the mountains around Ashland were dusted with snow. Some funky clouds rolled in, and then some blue sky poked through. I decided to head up to the roof to see how much of the detail I could capture.
I had my Nikkor 70-300mm lens on my Nikon D600. At 70mm I turned the camera vertical, and took a series of 8 photos at 1/800, f/10, ISO-200. I then photomerged them together for the above result. If you have a big screen, click on the image once or twice for the larger view. You can see lots of detail and landmarks on the biggest version including (from the left) Mountain Meadows, Grizzly Peak, and Pompadour Bluff.
Winter is cold, long, and bleak. I need to look at old photos like this one to remember what life was like just a little over a month ago.
Storm leaves Ashland Creek running through Lithia Park with tons of water to process. This spoon was found in this location in the gazebo along the creek near the band shell.
