The Bridges Forum – SOU

I just returned from the 2013 celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday in the Ashland Armory and wanted to get this first photo up in case anyone was interested in attending The Bridges Forum at SOU tonight. This will be a panel discussion happening at 6 p.m. in the Rogue River Room in the Stevenson Union Building on campus about accepting and embracing diversity in America. The panel will be composed of SOU Communication Instructor D.L. Richardson, Rabbi Joshua Boettiger, Pastor Kurt Katzmar, Social Sciences Instructor Flamur Vehapi, Philosophy Professor Prakash Chenjeri, and Dr. David Young, member of the National Spiritual Assembly of Baha’is of the United States.

Late night foggy glow

glowing fog ashland oregon

Fog in Ashland isn’t rare this time of year. It rolls in; it rolls out. The fog can be pretty, especially when we are perched above it. At night the fog normally can’t be seen even when it is there and we are above it, but for some, unknown reason a couple weeks ago, the fog was glowing. There was no full moon or moon at all. I still don’t know the cause.

View from Peabody’s Lookout

Mount McLoughlin from Peabody’s Wayback

I went on my third snowshoeing adventure yesterday. I parked at Buck Prairie, snowshoed Peabody’s Wayback, and the location above is at or near Peabody’s Lookout. I never saw a sign that said Peabody’s Lookout so I may not have actually made it there. The trail ran out at this point so I headed straight down the mountain and ended up between the restroom and Natasha’s View on the map so I figure I was close to Peabody’s Lookout.

In the distance in today’s panorama photo you can see a portion of snowed over Howard Prairie Lake and beyond that Mt. McLoughlin on the left and Brown Mountain on the right. Next time I’ll have to bring my 70-300mm lens instead of my 14-24mm lens for a much more close up view of these beauties.

Club 66 – Ashland, Oregon – Philly Steak Sandwich with Pesto Salad

I enjoyed another great lunch at Club 66 on Ashland Street (old Good Times, Lumpy’s, Stillwater, Cebolla location) today. Above is my Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich along with a Pesto Salad on the side.

Tonight some reggae bands are playing (Sweetgrass, Frankie Hernandez, and Ras Cricket and The Cultivators). Saturday night is more reggae music (I think):

If reggae isn’t your thing (it isn’t mine), stop in before 8 for some food. Below is my lunch from the other day. Notice the steam coming off of those meatballs.

Southern Oregon University’s basketball teams head out on the road for this weekend’s games. Tonight they play the College of Idaho and tomorrow night they play the NAIA #1 ranked team, Eastern Oregon University, who the Raiders beat at home recently.

Today’s photo is from last week’s win against Evergreen State College in Ashland.

Frozen morning sunrise

Cold sunrise over Ashland, Oregon

Like most of the West Coast of the USA over the past week, Ashland has been freezing–literally. Snow hasn’t fallen for about a week, but with lows in the teens every night since and highs around 30 degrees, not much has melted. Today we may finally hit 40 degrees, and we may even hit 50 at some point this weekend so there is hope that this state of affairs won’t last forever.

Snowy Ashland landscape

Ashland, Oregon snowy day

I tried something a little different for today’s photo. I wanted to do a photomerge of I-5 with Ashland in the background with a twist. Normally, I photomerge by taking a series of photos starting with the left and moving right and then stitch them together in Photoshop. However, with most of the traffic coming from the right (heading south) I thought, “what if I find an interesting vehicle and capture it in several of the images?” When I saw the yellow school bus coming I started firing away from right to left. Hence it (and the cars right next to it) show up multiple times in the final photomerged panorama.

I enjoyed another fantastic lunch at Club 66 yesterday.

This weekend’s live acts at Club 66 are on the country side of things. Friday night (January 11, 2013) is The Taylor Rose Band, Darrin Wayne, and Ponderosa Breeze. Saturday night is more country music, but I can’t remember who the bands are.
