Palace of Fine Arts in fog at night

san francisco california marina district palace of fine arts foggy night photography

We had some wonderful weather while in San Francisco for three nights this past weekend. Highs were in the low 70s and the lows were higher than Ashland’s normal high temperatures for this time of year. There was lots of sun and very little wind too. Saturday night the fog did roll in though. I headed out to the Palace of Fine Arts in the Marina District, which wasn’t far from our hotel on Lombard Street, to take this photo on that evening. For more of my pictures from San Francisco (on my other blog) click here.

Witch Cult returns to Musichead

oregon black metal band witch cult live at musichead in medford

Wednesday night Witch Cult opened for a couple bands (Love Songs From the Hated and The Delta Halos) that I didn’t hang around for at Musichead in Medford. Witch Cult has a new drummer now, and the corpse paint is gone, but they still sound great. They are playing again Saturday night, December 1, at Musichead. The show is supposed to start at 5, but Core System Failure is opening for them so don’t expect Witch Cult to be on stage before 6.

Last night Floater played at the McDonald Theatre in Eugene, but today’s photo is from the prior Friday night show a little farther south down I-5.

In Flames, Sylosis, and some other bands in one month

december 14 2012 medford armory metal show lamb of god in flames

It isn’t often that a decent size metal show happens in Southern Oregon. The last was Megadeth, Testament, and Exodus on March 3, 2010. I was in Japan at the time so I missed it, but I’ve seen each of these bands multiple times so no big deal.

I was supposed to see In Flames back in 2008, but a lack of sleep, illness, and complete and utter exhaustion from travel and the dozen bands that came before caused me to miss their headlining performance at Metaltown.

Now I finally get to see In Flames (and Sylosis) next month (December 14, 2012) at the Medford Armory, just north of Ashland. Expect photos.

Lamb of God and Hellyeah are also playing, but I am really going for In Flames and Sylosis.

Floater laser bath

I have mentioned before how bad the lighting can be at the Historic Rogue Theatre in Grants Pass. I wasn’t even going to take photos at last night’s Floater show if the lighting was no different. However, a Eugene company was hired by Floater to liven things up a bit, and they did a fantastic job. More photos soon…

Brookings Beach Birds

I took today’s photo four years ago today in Brookings, Oregon with my old Canon PowerShot S3. Fall on the Oregon Coast can be warmer than summer as there tends to be more sun and less fog.

Imagine

Imagine John Lennon Memorial Central park new York city

John Lennon was born on this day in 1940. Today’s photo is of the John Lennon Memorial, located in “Strawberry Fields” in Central Park in New York City. I took this pic this past summer shortly before visiting The Dakota, where Lennon was shot and killed in 1980. The Dakota is right next to this part of Central Park.

Wild Hunt @ Johnny B’s

I have been really enjoying Wild Hunt’s “Before The Plane of Angles” for the past few weeks, and last night I had the chance to see them live in Medford. They are even better live than their outstanding CD. Check them out if you are near Eugene tonight. If you like Enslaved, pre-Heritage Opeth, or Mastodon you are sure to appreciate Wild Hunt as well.

Oakland A’s meet Detroit Tigers in first round of MLB playoffs

Don Kelly of the Detroit Tigers strikes out against Brandon McCarthy of the Oakland A's

The Oakland A’s were alone in first place for a grand total of one day this season–the only day that counts, the final day. 162 games this season and where you sit in the standings means absolutely nothing for those first 161 days.

Hopefully, A’s pitching will mow down Tiger hitting beginning this weekend just as they did when I saw them play back in May.

Yesterday’s game was very exciting. I watched the first 6 innings from RedZone Sports Bar N’ Grill in Ashland between classes.
