Raider Club Auction

Tickets are still available for the annual Raider Club Scholarship Dinner and Auction.

The event will be held April 21 at 5:30 p.m. in the Rogue River Room on the SOU Campus.

Tickets are $50 per person and tables can be purchased for $500. To purchase tickets, call 541-552-6824 or email Bobby Heiken at heikenb@sou.edu.

The Scholarship Dinner and Auction raises scholarship money for student-athletes at SOU. The event features a silent auction, a live auction, a scholarship ask and dinner provided by Beasy’s On The Creek.

Last year’s event brought in over $85,000 for the student-athletes of SOU.

I took thousands of photos in what was this place. There were many good times within, but good riddance! The lighting was awful, and the place showed its age despite renovations in the past couple decades. I’m looking forward to the new venue in fall of 2017.

Some of you may have found your way here through the link on souraiders.com. I have had several people email me asking questions about buying prints or about finding all of my photos for a certain sport.

The photos I post here are a small fraction of the photos I actually have. If you would like to print any of the photos on this blog, you are welcome to do so at no charge. Be sure to click on the photo to get to the higher resolution size which will print with more quality. If you want to use them on the web (Facebook, Twitter, etc.), you are welcome to do so if you link back to traveljapanblog.com/ashland in the description of the photo. If you are using the photo in a newspaper or magazine, please credit “Al Case, Ashland Daily Photo”.

If you would like me to search through all of my photos and send you photos of the particular athlete you are looking for I charge a reasonable fee for the time it takes me to find all of those photos and to process them for you. I do not normally sell prints. I email you the high quality electronic files in .jpg format, and you can do the printing and framing yourself through a local or online service. Today’s photo is a composite of two photos. If you look closely you’ll see that the right side-infielders are cheering. That’s because by the time I got to them the batter had already swung and missed.

Muir Creek (near Muir Creek Falls) from the east

As I mentioned a couple days ago, my first goal on my snowshoeing adventure last week was to see Muir Creek Falls in winter. There isn’t a single photo of the place in winter on the internet. The normal trail to the falls is 3.9 miles each way. I wasn’t up for 8 miles in snowshoes, especially since I had a late start and wouldn’t be arriving until late afternoon. So, in looking at a map, I decided to try to get there from the Claude Lewis Trailhead / Sno-Park parking lot. The two places appeared to be only about 1,000 feet from each other on Google Maps.

The parking lot was easy to find and well plowed. I was the only person there. There were no trails or prints of any kind so I had to forge my own path, something snowshoes are pretty good for. The snow varied from a few feet to over 10-feet deep in places. The snow was very soft, and I sank 6-12 inches with every step, even with snowshoes. Although the going was mostly flat, after 1,000 feet or so I came to the scene shown in today’s photo. Muir Creek was right in front of me, but it was a hundred + feet down with no trails or feasible way to make the descent.
