Ashland High School Varsity Volleyball
Tonight in Ashland the high school volleyball teams have their first 5A conference matches against Eagle Point High School. The JV1 and JV2 teams play at 5:45, and the varsity matches begin when they are finished sometime after 7 p.m. Today’s photo is from last week’s non-conference game against Hidden Valley High School.
Last Friday night, in addition to Diesto, Fire in the Northwest rocked Club 66.

Today’s photo comes from a flight back in May when I flew out of the Ashland airport on my way to the Oakland airport. This photo was actually taken on the return trip in the evening.

Warhead, Core System Failure, and Sylent Storm will be playing an all ages show at Medford’s Musichead tonight beginning at 6 p.m.
The Southern Oregon University Women’s Soccer Team takes on Simpson University today. Game time is 1 p.m. and the venue is the field off of Iowa Street (enter through the football stadium).
Diesto, a fantastic band from Portland, and Fire in the Northwest played last night at Ashland’s Club 66.

The Southern Oregon University Volleyball Team begin their Cascade Collegiate Conference 2013 season tonight on the road. They face Corban University in Salem. They won’t play again in Ashland until September 20.

Not for me, but for my kids, today they go back to school after a summer break that included good times like the above. My summer break continues for another few weeks.
The Milky Way over Beatty, Oregon
I spent a couple nights over Labor Day Weekend at a friend’s ranch in Beatty, about two and a half hours east of Ashland. With no moon, clear skies, and no sizable population within 30+ miles the Milky Way was quite visible with the naked eye.
I am between tripods at the moment so I had to prop my camera up in some old manure to get this shot, a 15 second exposure (to avoid star trails) @ 24mm. Next time I will be sure to have a tripod and my 14-24mm lens so I can go for a 30 second exposure without star trails for hopefully better results.
