Another full day of volleyball action today. Today’s photo is from last week’s tournament. We came in 2nd place out of 16 teams last week. Maybe today mOcean Blitz will finally win a tournament (after knocking on the door the first three tournaments).

With two matches going at the same time, instead of a buzzer when time expired, one of the SOU volleyball players would tap the referee on the back when the clock ticked down to zero.

Between the wrestling singlet and the numerous crotch grabs, many of my photos aren’t very presentable. This last picture isn’t quite so obscene, but it is a strange one.

I was expecting lighting like the last time I attended a wrestling meet at SOU. I thought a wide angle shot might be pretty cool looking, with the single light over the center of the mat. However, with this many matches (10 a.m. until 8 p.m. non stop) they had two mats out and most of the lights on, not as dramatic, but I took a wide angle shot anyway.

With one leg bound high in the air and the other coming off the mat courtesy of Derek’s left foot, Reed was not in a great position at this point. Rottenberg went on to win the match.

Derek Rottenberg of SOU and Kody Reed of Montana State University Northern (MSU-N) grapple

This past Saturday, Southern Oregon University hosted the NAIA West Region Qualifying Tournament for wrestling. I’ll have a few more photos from the event over the next week.

SOU came out on top to win the West Championship and will be sending a dozen wrestlers (the maximum allowed from a single school) to the NAIA National Championships next weekend.

I’m looking forward to a return to outdoor sports. No, soccer doesn’t resume until the fall, but SOU softball has begun and the team will be playing at home soon.
