Six Flags Vallejo

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom Oakland trip by plane

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom – Vallejo, California – aerial view

Back when I was a kid, I would go to Marine World which changed its name to Marine World Africa USA when I was an older kid. We drove across the bay to Redwood City on those occasions. At some point Marine World moved to Vallejo. And at some point after that it went through a series of name changes and is now called Six Flags Discovery Kingdom and looks nothing like the Marine World I once knew.

I took today’s photo from a small airplane on my way back to Ashland in late May.

Today’s photo comes from last September. I believe this was Kellogg Beach, just north of Crescent City in Northern California.

Palace of Fine Arts in fog at night

We had some wonderful weather while in San Francisco for three nights this past weekend. Highs were in the low 70s and the lows were higher than Ashland’s normal high temperatures for this time of year. There was lots of sun and very little wind too. Saturday night the fog did roll in though. I headed out to the Palace of Fine Arts in the Marina District, which wasn’t far from our hotel on Lombard Street, to take this photo on that evening. For more of my pictures from San Francisco (on my other blog) click here.

Pelican Bay

Pelican Bay is most famous for its prison, but just a couple miles from the prison, on Pelican Bay itself, is a decent beach. And, yes, that is a pelican in the distance.

Stop and enjoy the Milky Way

On my way back from Sacramento I pulled off of I-5 somewhere between Dunsmuir and Weed to pee. I looked up at the beautiful Milky Way and decided a photo was needed. So I opened my shutter while doing my business and this pic was the result.

I’ll be posting photos from the Death Angel, Testament, and Anthrax show on my other blog over the next little while.

Stout Grove

We went to the coast this past weekend and stopped in Stout Grove in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, part of California Redwood National Park, along the way. I never tire of this place even though I’ve been there many times now.

Descending from Castle Peak

heart lake castle crags hiking

During our only full day at Lake Siskiyou we drove about 8 miles to Castle Lake (elevation 5436 feet). From there we went on a 5-mile (or so) hike to Heart Lake (elevation 6035 feet) and then above it to Castle Peak (elevation 6617 feet). The views are best from Heart Lake and above Heart Lake on Castle Peak where you can see the lakes, Mt. Shasta, Castle Crags and a lovely 360 degrees of wilderness. Today’s photo isn’t from the top though. The lakes are obscured by trees, but you can see Black Butte and Mt. Shasta, as well as some of my hiking party.

Lake Siskiyou panorama

We just returned from a few days in California. We camped near Lake Siskiyou which is near Mt. Shasta in Northern California, only a little over an hour south of Ashland. The lake was chaos on hot days in the afternoon on a weekend in August, but I took today’s photo in the morning with few people around.
