Ice Walker
Last week I posted a photo from the edge of Lake of the Woods. This was from a walk I took last weekend in snow shoes.
Today’s photo is from the middle of the lake after I ventured out past the shadows. In the shadows there was snow on the ice, and things felt more solid. I probably could have kept going straight across to my car near the lodge in the distance, but as the ice became more transparent I figured my adrenaline levels were high enough so I turned back at this point and walked around instead.

Before this week’s warm temperatures melt things around here, I headed up to the Greensprings last Friday for this photo of the (then frozen) pond off Highway 66 near Pinehurst Elementary School.

AHS Turf Field Campaign!

The final fundraising efforts to obtain a new multi-purpose turf field for Ashland High School are underway. The new field will be used year round for football, soccer, and PE classes. The current field is largely unusable most of the year. I was out there yesterday (when this photo was taken), and even though it hadn’t rained in over 24 hours, much of the field was swamp like.
There are two ways you can help.
1. Northwest Pizza is donating 10 percent of all sales beginning today to the Ashland School District’s turf field campaign. The other days are 2/10/16, 3/9/16, 4/6/16, 5/11/16, and 6/8/16.

Merry Christmas from the Beach of the Dead
Playa De Los Muertos
We’ve spent the past week in a sunny paradise. In less than 24 hours we’ll be back on a plane headed for Ashland and the 20-something degrees that await our arrival.
The “Beach of the Dead” (Playa De Los Muertos) is so named for the cemetery nearby. It’s actually quite lovely and a great place to avoid the crowds (on Sayulita’s main beach) if you are ever in Sayulita, Mexico.

We will start Christmas with 80+ degree temps in Sayulita, Mexico (where we are now). By the end of the day we’ll be back in Ashland where the temperature will likely be in the 20s, and snow may be on the ground. Today’s photo is from last week just after the prior weekend’s snowfall began to melt at the lower elevations.
Wrestling season

Wednesday night (11/4/15) begins the SOU wrestling season with the annual red and black intrasquad. This year will be the first that includes women wrestlers. Action begins at 6:30.
