mOcean Volleyball Club season over

mocean volleyball club oregon

These past 10 days have probably been the longest consecutive non-volleyball days we have had in a year. Beach volleyball and lots of college volleyball camps (OSU, UofO, SOU) coming up soon…

Ryan Stasik of Umphrey’s McGee

I had never even heard of Umphrey’s McGee until a few days ago. The show they put on at the Ashland Armory last night was nothing short of amazing. I have a few more photos I’ll post soon.

I walked on this trail late last summer for several hours and didn’t encounter a single person. It was wonderful.

Rugby animation

women's rugby animation gif jpg

The above is my first attempt to animate a series of images. The color and texture got messed up on conversion. In addition, I made it too large so it doesn’t work at any resolution other than the original. If you are on a big screen, though, click on the above image for the animation.

Here is one of the files used to make the animation sequence.

Another jpg vs. RAW comparison

raw vs jpeg jpg compare concert photography poor lighting

from jpg file (about 30 seconds of processing)

I still use jpgs for most of my images even though I shoot in both RAW and jpeg. Whenever I try to process a RAW file, and the photo was taken in decent lighting, my jpg either looks better or it is indistinguishable from the RAW file which took many times longer to process. However, in low, poor, or weird lighting I still, sometimes, try to process the RAW file to see what I can come up with.

I don’t think there is much comparison in today’s photo. The jpg simply does not look better. I could have processed that jpg for hours and still not got it to look remotely as good as the RAW-processed result.

Wave upon the rock

Today’s photo is from Bandon, but I took a somewhat similar picture in Brookings (a couple hours farther down the Oregon Coast) several years ago. Which image do you like better?

As always, these photos look much better on a big screen after clicking on them. I have had several people ask about using my images. Here is the deal. All images can be used under a Creative Commons license for non-commercial use only. What this means is you are free to use images from traveljapanblog.com on your personal blog, personal Facebook page, etc., but you must link to the page on this site that has the photo. If you can’t find the specific page you can link to traveljapanblog.com. If you aren’t using the photo on the web or if you can’t link, you can credit “Al Case, Ashland Daily Photo”. If you want to use a photo for any commercial use you must contact me before using the image, and we can work something out. All images are copyrighted, even though I allow people to use them.

For each picture I post there are actually two images on the server. The one you see above is a small one. For the larger size (great for desktop backgrounds), click on the image first, and then save the image that appears. I have even larger images available should you ever want to make a print.
