All of these scholar-athletes have a cumulative GPA over 3.2 and are at least sophomores.

Steeplechase (AKA Track Swimming)

Not much of a throwback Thursday today as this happened just last week. However, this photo is racking up favorites on Flickr at an unprecedented rate so I thought I would share it here too. Clearly the “agony of defeat” is more popular than the “thrill of victory.”

In fairness to this steeplechaser (who was not an SOU athlete BTW), although she had troubles with the water jump on every lap, she finished in the middle of the pack and was far from last place.

Members of the Southern Oregon University football, volleyball, soccer, and wrestling teams boarded buses this morning in Ashland to go to Salem. Some recent grads came down from Portland. Laurence Calcagno made a triumphant entry on his motorcycle.

SOU was in second place when the baton was handed to Amelia Maguin for the anchor leg of the 4×100 relay.

Amelia Maguin broke the SOU record by .37 seconds in the 200 meters this past Saturday in Ashland. She also won the 100-meter hurdles and was on two winning relay teams (one pictured above). She opted not to compete in her best event (where she is ranked #1 in the entire NAIA with a time more than 2 seconds faster than anyone), the 400-meter hurdles, as there wasn’t any competition.
