SOU adds men’s soccer and women’s wrestling

From the press release:
“Beginning in fall 2015, SOU will feature a men’s soccer team that will compete in the CCC and a women’s wrestling team to go along with the perennial power of a men’s squad.
SOU will join 198 other schools in the NAIA that already have men’s soccer. The eight-team CCC men’s soccer circuit hasn’t added a new member since Oregon Tech formed its program prior to the 2008 season, but will welcome the Raiders and Eastern Oregon’s start-up program in 2015.
“The women’s wrestling team will compete in the same tournaments as the men against women competitors from other colleges,” [Matt] Sayre said. “Women’s wrestling is a growing sport with more than 1,000 high school participants on the West Coast alone. This will be a great benefit to our University.””

OSAA 5A Boys Soccer Quarterfinals
Ashland High School soccer keeper Tejas Leie Heyden
Thanks, in large part, to a heroic effort from Tejas this past Wednesday night, the Grizzlies will be playing again today in Woodburn. The AHS goalie held Liberty scoreless through regulation and two OTs. To top it off, he block two of their first four penalty kicks to send Ashland on to the next round of the Oregon state playoffs.

Kelsey Randall had two goals and an assist to lead the Raiders to a 5-1 win over OIT this afternoon. The Raiders will be on the road (Corban) for the first round of the Cascade Conference tournament on November 5.
Excessive celebration penalty

We all learned from the Arizona-Oregon football game that an excessive celebration penalty can be very costly. On that occasion the Ducks may have lost the game (and the national championship) because of the penalty.

The Raiders improved to 3-2 in conference play with yesterday’s victory over Eastern. Tomorrow night (10/11/14) they will play under the lights in Ashland. Game time is 6 p.m., and it may be their last home game of the season.
