Ashland’s daffodils
Pretty much the only flower you see regularly in Ashland is the daffodil. Why? It’s about the only flower the deer won’t eat.

Ashland panorama
Yesterday was a really beautiful day in Ashland. Unfortunately, I had to work most of the day. However, I did get this shot off on my way to work. Actually, this is five shots merged into one in CS5 and probably covers about 150 degrees. That’s why Grizzly Peak, on the left, looks so small even though I wasn’t that far from it.
Other than the sun being too much, I really like how this photo turned out. I’ll have to try it again someday when the sun is behind a cloud.

The more typical photo of the Ashland Springs Hotel is from E Main Street. The view from the rear, with Grizzly Peak in the distance, isn’t bad either.
Wishing for a different season

Winter is my least favorite time of year in Ashland. Grizzly Peak has turned brown, flowers are gone, only the pines retain any green, and the temperature is too cold to spend much time outside anyway. Sure it can be pretty at times, when fog creeps through the valley floor or when we get a fresh dusting of snow, but the six months it will take to get to scenes like that above seem to crawl by awfully slowly.

Easter
I’ve been having problems with my monitor these past few days. The colors are out of whack so I can’t process any photos. I’m hoping a new video card will do the trick. The first one I purchased was a “low profile” graphics card. I didn’t know that low profile means it doesn’t fit my standard desktop. So today I sent it back, and it may be another week before the correct size comes in.
Until then I’ll dip into the archives. Today’s photo isn’t from that long ago, this past Sunday to be exact, just before my colors went bad. Someone had finished their Easter mimosa (except the strawberry) and the light was coming through the window at brunch just right.

The Easter Bunny that visited my house either knows that my kids are now tall enough to search for their goodies in trees, or he (she? it?) thinks that such placements will be beneficial to capturing more yellow jackets.
Cherry blossoms continue to open
The cherry blossoms on our property began to open on Saturday when I took this photo. I misidentified them as plum blossoms (since I tend to think of Japan’s white cherry blossoms and pink plum blossoms) in a prior picture.
Cherry blossoms have begun to open
Ashland can’t hold a candle to Japan when it comes to cherry blossoms, but we do have our fair share of blossoming trees anyway. They have begun to open in the past few days but are yet to peak. Hopefully, we’ll have weather like today’s for a week or two from here on out to fully enjoy them.
