Yankee Stadium Sushi

The One Sushi 日本料理

We love baseball, sushi, apple pie, and Chevrolet. Isn’t that how the song goes?

March is here, and that means baseball season is not far away. In fact, with the 2013 World Baseball Classic beginning this weekend, the 2013 baseball season is more or less underway.

Today’s photo is from my trip to Yankee Stadium last summer. This summer I’ll visit several stadiums I have never been to before, but probably none of them will be in the USA. They will be in Japan and Korea. Stay tuned.

Blue Hour Ryochoin (亮朝院)

You can see more photos of, and read more about, this Buddhist temple, including an old Edo Period drawing of the place, in this prior entry. This gate is much more elaborate than the original in the Edo drawing. Unlike most Shinto shrines in Japan, you can’t enter these Buddhist grounds once they shut the gates at dusk (or before they open them in the morning).

Tokyo Marathon 2013 results

Tokyo Marathon 2010 in the rain (Iidabashi, Tokyo, Japan)

Today’s Tokyo Marathon 2013 had Kazuhiro Maeda as the top Japanese finisher. Four of the top five finishers were from Kenya with the winner being Dennis Kipruto Kimetto.

I remember, very well, a wet morning three years ago when I was there. Click here for more photos and video from that day.

Today’s photo comes from our trip to San Francisco this past November.

Speaking of trips… I booked my flights to Japan and Korea this morning for this summer. Strangely, it was cheaper to layover several days in Japan each way than to just book a round-trip ticket to Korea. Also, staying in Japan each way will break up what would have been two, 34+ hour one-way trips into something more realistic. I was trying various airports and days and found that if I flew to Fukuoka (through Tokyo) it was about $1,000 cheaper than just flying to Tokyo. This makes no sense, but I guess airline ticket pricing doesn’t make much sense. The super cheap fare to Fukuoka was only available for one day. I thought, oh well, I’ll just get off in Tokyo even though I also have a ticket to Fukuoka. But I’ve never been to Fukuoka so I’ll go to Kyushu for a change. On my way back from Korea I’ll get to spend a day or more in Tokyo.

So, for those of you who have been to Fukuoka, what should I see and do between Fukuoka and Osaka? I’ll have about four days. I have been to Himeji, but other than Himeji this part of Japan is all new to me.
