Juliusz Słowacki Theatre behind Plac Św. Ducha (Krakow, Poland – June 2021)
Until 1891, a large hospital was located in the foreground next to the church on the right (Church of the Holy Cross, built in the 14th Century). The hospital turned into a jail for over a decade in the 19th Century before being demolished to make way for the theatre. I really wanted to go inside as photos of the interior look incredible, but thanks to Covid-19, it was closed.
Congress Hall (Warsaw, Poland – August 2021)
It’s been 10 years since anyone has played at this venue in Warsaw. The facility has been under renovation for much longer than originally planned. A bankruptcy and cost overruns will keep the concert hall closed for at least another year. The building in the background is this one.
Birkenau, Poland
Today’s photo is a rather grim one. These are the ruins of the gas chamber and crematorium at the Birkenau Concentration Camp (Auschwitz II). They were demolished in January 1945 by Nazis before retreating. A guard tower can be seen in the distance. Over a million people were killed here; more than 90% were Jewish.
Saint Mary’s Basilica (Krakow, Poland)
I believe the sign on the roof says something about it being restored in 1927. However, that’s strange because Wikipedia says the roof was replaced in 2003.

Some evenings are more magical than others…
Krakow’s Main Square dates back to the 13th Century and is the largest medieval town square in Europe. Saint Mary’s Basilica is from the 14th Century.
