A couple of my more popular posts have been Wells Fargo International Wire Transfer still stinks and Beware of banks ripping you off on foreign currency wire transfers!.
Seven years have passed since that first post and more than six years have passed since the second post. Have things changed? Yes. They have gotten worse!
I had to wire DKK to my landlord in Denmark for this summer. Wells Fargo online quoted me a rate 3% off from the market rate, and the wire fee has gone up from $25 per transfer to $35 per transfer. The net result was going to be a cost of $2,165 for my rent. I called Wells Fargo to try and get a better rate and was put on hold for half an hour. At that point I hung up.
I then went to xe.com and within 15 minutes I had transferred the same amount in DKK (from my Wells Fargo bank account no less!) to my Danish landlord for $2,087.
Conclusion: you can waste your time and money with your bank, or you can use one of several online services that will transfer your money for you for less.

朝青龍 明徳の最後の優勝
Between November of 2002 and January of 2010 Asashoryu dominated the sport of sumo. He was the champion 25 times. His main competition was Hakuho, who won the tournament 12 times during that same period. Since Asashoryu’s retirement, after his final victory–pictured above, Hakuho has gone on to win 25 more times, including the last two tournaments this year.

Post-storm Osaka
The best skies are those at dawn, dusk, or during changing weather. Today’s photo, from the Umeda Sky Building, featured two of those three.

Voivod @ Oakland Metro (February 2015)
@voivoddotnet @centurymedia @oaklandmetro @fuelandseed
Voivod is playing in Eugene this Thursday (6/9/16). I was thinking about making the drive to see them and then bring my son home from school. But he has a final on Friday, a car of his own, and he’s not coming home for another month, so I think I will skip them this go around as six hours of driving (especially on the way home after midnight) doesn’t sound so fun. The other reason being that I’m seeing dozens of great bands in just a few weeks in Scandinavia so I don’t feel like I need to fill my concert tank quite so much. I do love Voivod, though, and hope to see them again. Maybe a Southern Oregon show next time fellas?
One of the summer festivals I was planning to go to was Bravalla in Sweden. However, they have been slow to get back to me about a photo pass so I’m going to go to Roskilde instead. No Rammstein or Volbeat, but I will see Ghost, Gojira, Sumac, Neil Young, etc. (and not have to get a hotel room).
