Trapped under a shrine in Okunoin (奥の院)

Today’s photo is what happens when you are walking around Koyasan and rain begins to fall heavily. I took refuge under the only shelter nearby which was this small shrine. I took photos while I waited for the rain to subside. I could see sun so I figured it wouldn’t last long. You can’t really see the rain in this photo, but here is a photo I took less than a minute later in the other direction.

As previously mentioned, I was given the Kaede room when I checked in at Fudoin. After the temple priest instructed me on where everything was in the room, how to use the remote controls, and when dinner would be served he departed. I rested a moment before getting up to slide the shoji (障子) open and enjoy my view.

Next week I will show you 180 degrees of view once I stuck my head out through the window.

One of my favorite places on this earth is this cemetery in the mountains of Japan. I’m dying to return.
