Corrosion of Conformity

heavy metal concert photos nikon d7000 18-200mm lens

While I was getting into metal bands in the 1980s, COC was a punk band so I never got into them. Although I came to like Suicidal Tendencies, who crossed over from punk to metal, I suppose I never heard enough of COC once they made the switch to metal to come to appreciate them.

At the Getaway Rock Festival, where I took today’s photos, I was so tired when COC hit the stage that this wasn’t the best of opportunities to fall in love. Instead, I headed for my hotel halfway through their set in order to take a nap. I made it back to the festival just in time for Ghost.

St. George and the Dragon – Storkyrkan, Stockholm, Sweden

I thought this sculpture by Berndt Notke was pretty cool from the above angle as it looks like Saint George is actually riding a dragon, Harry Potter style. Actually he is on a horse slaying the dragon as you can see from a different angle below.

This sculpture is mentioned at the beginning of The Girl Who Takes An Eye For An Eye.

The church in Stockholm, Sweden in which you can find this work of art and the description photographed above goes by many names including Sankt Nikolai Kyrka (Church of St. Nicholas), Storkyrkan (The Great Church), and Stockholms Domkyrka (Stockholm Cathedral). Not many actually go to church in Sweden anymore for their original purposes as less than 20% of the population believes in god and far fewer attend a church. Most churches are mere museums and historical curiosities at this point. I wonder how long it will take for that to be true in the USA?

Death Angel crowd in Sweden

My random, desktop image of the day is the one above from the Getaway Rock Festival. Death Angel was on stage behind me.

I thought about driving down to Santa Rosa to see Death Angel perform yesterday, but it didn’t happen. To make matters worse, the show I was going to see in Southern Oregon got cancelled.

Vondelpark’s flower garden

A visit to Holland isn’t complete without seeing some flowers, but I don’t think I even saw any tulips. I did come across a massive rose garden in Vondelpark in Amsterdam.

Clouds in Denmark

On my bike ride from Copenhagen to Dragor I decided to pull over and take this photo of the clouds, as it isn’t often that we get clouds like this back home.

Copenhagen Jazz Festival

Every summer Copenhagen has its annual jazz festival. I have been there for two of them. Today’s photo comes from 2011, in a tapas bar near Nyhavn called Tango & Vinos. I believe the bass player’s name is Rasmus Vennevold, and he was backing Birgitte Soojin at the time.
