Frogner Park (Frognerparken) is one of the most interesting parks I have ever visited. Luckily I’ve had the chance twice. The first time this view wasn’t as nice as the church in the background was undergoing repairs and was covered in scaffolding. Three years later (last summer) the scene looked better. Little did anyone know at the time, less than a week later lovely and peaceful Oslo would turn into chaos with the terrorist attacks launched by Anders Behring Breivik.
Iron Maiden has the rather strange situation of having three guitarists at the moment in addition to founding bassist Steve Harris. I say “at the moment,” but Janick Gers has actually been in the band for over 22 years now. He came on board to fill in for Adrian Smith, but has stuck around despite Adrian returning more than 13 years ago.

A very good setlist in my opinion, but if I was in charge I would have changed the last two out for “22 Acacia Avenue” and “Hallowed Be Thy Name.”
Steve Harris of Iron Maiden
Back in the 1982 – 1987 time frame I practically worshiped Iron Maiden–and Steve Harris in particular. The first chance I had to see them live was at the Cow Palace in San Francisco in 1985 at the ripe old age of 16. I saw them four times in the following two years while they toured in support of their Powerslave and Somewhere in Time albums. But, as I mentioned on my other blog, I only had the opportunity to witness Iron Maiden one other time (Brave New World tour) in the past 25 years… until this past Friday night when I made the drive down to the Shoreline Amphitheatre for a really fun evening.
Iron Maiden is currently doing a throwback tour to their Seventh Son of a Seventh Son days which is fantastic for me as I didn’t see that tour. They are calling it the Maiden England World Tour, the same name given to their video from the similar tour back in the late 1980s.

The Persistence of Memory
One of the floors of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City contains so many famous paintings it boggles the mind. In addition to the Dali, I photographed above, there are works by Van Gogh (including “The Starry Night”), Cezanne, Rousseau, Picasso, Monet, and Matisse. Unlike the museums in Europe (or at least those found in Italy and France), the crowds are not bad and photography is allowed.
I took today’s photo one year ago. Stockholm is a wonderful city. Unfortunately, I only had half a day there. Someday I need to go back for a more extended visit.
