Gwangju’s new baseball stadium

Let me introduce you to my bike while in Gwangju. This is Squeaky. I call my bike Squeaky because it squeaks, a lot. Squeaky isn’t a comfortable bike to ride. Nor does it do well on even mild inclines. But I’m still glad to have Squeaky as it allows me the opportunity to see much more of Gwangju than I otherwise would.

The big stadium behind the river is still under construction. It is scheduled to open for the next baseball season in 2014. They haven’t named it yet. At the KIA Tigers game I went to fans were given stickers to place on the name of the stadium they preferred. Since I can’t read or understand Korean, I’m not sure what name I voted for, but I was thanked for voting.

Mets vs. Yankees

When I visit a new stadium for the first time (especially when it is also likely my last time too) I don’t like to sit in one seat the entire game. However, when it is a Yankees vs. Mets game, the game will be sold out and not many empty seats can be found to move into. I found a few seats in the very back row behind home plate to watch an inning from. The banter in this location between the Mets and Yankees fans was quite hilarious.

The Mets and Yankees face off later this month over Memorial Day Weekend. Two games will be played at Citi Field followed by two in Yankee Stadium.

I don’t sleep so well while traveling. I’m not sure if it is the foreign bed or the fact that I feel like I’m wasting precious moments sleeping on trips, but insomnia and/or jet lag visit me every time I go somewhere. On our recent trip to San Francisco I took sleeping pills for two of our three nights. On the other night I slept for a few hours and then just laid in bed for over an hour before deciding to get up and do something at 3 a.m.

I drove to San Francisco City Hall, but it was dark. I’m not sure if they turn the lights off for the weekend or at midnight, but it looked great when we drove by after dark on an earlier evening. Not so at 3 a.m. on a Saturday morning. Next, I drove up to Twin Peaks and took this series of three photos which I then photomerged together. Back to bed after this panorama and I slept pretty well from 4 to 7 a.m.
