Spring training begins soon

japanese boy baseball game lotte marines potato chip no standing sign

Spring training for the 2013 baseball season in both the USA and Japan begins in less than a month. I don’t have plans to see games this year in either country though. I do plan to see some professional baseball games in Korea this summer.

Today’s photo is a bit ironic. The sign says that watching the game while standing is prohibited. Everyone in this section of Chiba Marine Stadium stands during the entire half of the inning, though, except this little guy who was sitting, backwards, eating chips while watching fans instead of the game.

I hope I look as good as Wolf when I turn 53. He was “only” 51 when I took this photo, but still…

China

china street scene liquor store orange stand tofu kids with pink backpacks

It has been a while since I posted any China pics to this blog. Today my random, desktop image was this photo from the streets of Zhengzhou (郑州). I can’t speak Chinese, but I can read some of it (for meaning). Looks like the stand behind the oranges was selling tofu, and the store on the right is a liquor store.

My blog is blocked in China (as are all sites hosted on Godaddy) so I’m guessing you are viewing this from somewhere else in the world.

Tommy Milone comes through again

Tommy Milone oakland athletics pitcher

My A’s continue to roll. Milone threw six scoreless innings last night to win his third start in a row. Oakland has won six straight against Cleveland. The A’s now have the third best record in the American League even though non-A’s baseball fans would be hard pressed to name more than two guys on the team.

Mitsuki Dazai on the Japanese koto (琴)

osf green show japan koto instrument

I have listened to the koto many times in Japan, but the chance in the USA is pretty rare. When Mitsuki Dazai comes down from Eugene, Oregon to play at the OSF Green Show I try to be there. Here are some more photos from her performance last Saturday night in Ashland.
