The Higashiyama Walking Course (東山遊歩道) in Takayama, Japan

One good thing about visiting Takayama during rainy season is you can do things like the popular Higashiyama Walking Course through Temple Town (寺町) without any crowds.

I’m hoping for an unseasonably dry rainy season in Japan this summer as I will be there for a few days of it a month from now.

Tokyo Marathon 2010 in the rain (Iidabashi, Tokyo, Japan)

Today’s Tokyo Marathon 2013 had Kazuhiro Maeda as the top Japanese finisher. Four of the top five finishers were from Kenya with the winner being Dennis Kipruto Kimetto.

I remember, very well, a wet morning three years ago when I was there. Click here for more photos and video from that day.

One of the great things about Copenhagen is you can ride a bike anywhere. There are no hills, and the streets have great bike lanes. The downside is when you get caught in a rain storm. I took today’s photo at the Carlsberg Brewery (in Frederiksberg) while waiting for the rain to let up. It didn’t, and I eventually had to head out through the storm. I got drenched, but it was still a good day.

Wet Times Square

Watching all of the images of New York on the news during and after Hurricane Sandy brought back memories of the rain, thunder, and lightning that we experienced there this past summer. However, that storm was nothing compared to Sandy.

I took today’s photo on Times Square in the rain.

Rockefeller Center after dark in the rain

rockefeller center Manhattan new york city reflection rainy night

After the lightning storm in New York we ate dinner in Brooklyn with plans to walk over the Brooklyn Bridge back into Manhattan. However, the rain started again so the rest of the family called it a day and went back to the place we were staying in Spanish Harlem. I parted with them near the Rockefeller Center. I wanted to go up to the Top of the Rock for a view of New York in the rain at night, but it was closed due to the continued threat of lightning. Instead, I took a walk to Times Square. At the beginning of that walk I captured this image of part of the Rockefeller Center and Radio City Music Hall reflecting in the fountain across the street on the corner of 6th Avenue and 49th Street.

Okuma Teien (大隈庭園)

This Japanese garden next to Waseda University was lovely in the rain. This photo doesn’t quite capture everything. I took it during the first week of April, at the height of the cherry blossoms, but you only see a bit of them in the upper left corner. If you look closely you can see carp in the koi pond.
