Levi’s Stadium – Inaugural Season (Santa Clara, California)

I’ve spent the last couple days watching volleyball at the Santa Clara Convention Center. Across the street is Levi’s Stadium. I wandered over this morning to watch the sunrise from behind the stadium.

Three years ago, I took today’s photo. I didn’t know what I was doing in terms of DSLR settings (f/2.8, 1/2000, ISO6400), but even though this could have looked far better at f/8 and ISO100, at least I know I’ve learned something in the past three years.
Lots of images of San Francisco on the TV the past couple nights thanks to the Giants making it into the 2012 World Series. Today’s photo is from my trip to the “City by the Bay” back in April. Even though I love San Francisco, I have never been able to like the Giants. Even when I was a kid, going to games at Candlestick Park, I found myself cheering for the Cardinals, Expos, Phillies, Mets, or whoever it was the Giants were playing. Go Tigers!
I happened to be flying from the USA to northern Europe just a day or two after last year’s Summer solstice. The plane flew over the bottom of Greenland and I was sitting in a window seat on the left side of the plane. The sun never completely set. Today’s photo is about as low as the sun got in the sky before rising once again.
Old Town at summer's dawn -- Gävle, Sweden
I took today’s photo at 2:29 a.m. in early July in the farthest place north I’ve ever been–Gävle, Sweden. I had no tripod so there are no photographic tricks of light here. The shutter on my D7000 remained open for a mere 1/200th of a second. The sky never became totally dark on this evening/morning. A long sunset turns into a long sunrise this far north in the summer. I was walking back to my hotel through Gamla Stan, Gävle’s “Old Town”, from the Getaway Rock Festival.
The Old Town of Gävle contains many buildings from the 17th Century and the cobble stone streets are also from that time period.
