Rogue River (Rainie Falls)

Rainie Falls on the Rogue River is considered Class V whitewater (AKA waterfall). Most people go around it by going down the fish ladder. This lady didn’t and she fell out of her boat. Rather than dive into the waterfall and swim for the shore, she waited for a rescue boat to come down which she jumped in as it went by.

BTW, we are going down the Rogue next week. We’ve never done more than a day trip before, but we will spend four days on the river going from Galice to Foster Bar. We will be camping for three nights and passing the location of today’s photo on day one. We will also encounter six sets of Class III rapids and a Class IV.

Hey, SOU people. I know some of you check this blog on a daily basis. I haven’t seen this announced anywhere online or via campus email, but I saw a flyer on campus (even though the campus is mostly empty) saying tonight (7/15/15) is Southern Oregon University night with the Medford Rogues. You can get in for $2, hot dogs for $2, beer for $2, etc. with your SOU ID. Game time is 6:35. The weather should be as nice as last night (pictured above).

Try not to turn it into another 10 Cent Beer Night riot. 😉

I would have never encountered yesterday’s great horned owl had it not been for today’s bald eagle. We were heading to the bald eagles’ nest when we encountered the owls.

Today I returned to Ashland after a couple nights in Beatty, Oregon. This photo comes from a spot near the Sycan River on Tuesday. I went back to see the owls again on Wednesday and Thursday. See them again I did. However, by the time I had my camera out, they split.
