The Oregon Ducks play their first game of the season in Eugene at 6 p.m. today. I’m getting the itch to head up the highway to catch a game or two. It’s been too long since I’ve last seen live baseball.
The first baseman in today’s photo, Danny Hayes of the OSU Beavers, was drafted by the Chicago White Sox. The pitcher, Andrew Moore, was only a freshman when I took this, and in addition to winning the Pac-12 Freshman Player of the Year Award, he was also named to the Baseball America All-America First Team.
I went for a walk this past Sunday morning when we were staying at the Inn at Diamond Woods, a place on a golf course between Eugene and Corvallis. The grass was mostly flooded from the rain the day before so there weren’t many golfers.
The sun had barely peeked through the clouds when I took today’s photo. Rain began again soon thereafter which was fine by us since we were going to be indoors all the rest of the day at the CEVA Presidents’ Day Volleyball Tournament.
Yesterday was the first warm day we have had in months, and it almost felt like the day when I took this photo (my random, desktop photo of the day) back in the summer of 2011. I went on a bike ride and saw just a touch of snow on Mt. Ashland, extremely rare for this time of year. I’m guessing there isn’t much on Mount McLoughlin either given the nearly snowless winter we are experiencing.
Murder Junkies, Rum Rebellion, and I.T.F. are playing at Johnny B’s tonight (1/20/14) beginning at 9 p.m.
