One of the bands opening for Neurosis a couple months ago was The Body, a duo currently residing in Portland.
Santa Barbara has the largest fig tree in the USA, but this isn’t it. The one pictured here is still a massive presence on the cemetery grounds of the Santa Barbara Mission.
Last week I posted a photo from the clock tower of the Santa Barbara County Courthouse. Today’s photo is of the courthouse and the clock tower that prior picture came from.
The first night we pulled into Santa Barbara we were all rather stunned driving past this building which looked spectacular at night. During the day it still looked pretty cool, but at night is when it really dazzles. Every night I meant to walk down the street (we were staying near Santa Barbara High School) to get this shot, but it wasn’t until our final night–Christmas evening–that I actually made it happen.
Today’s photo comes from our trip to Santa Barbara last week. This is the beach right next to UCSB, and this dad was taking his kids out surfing. With the challenges of moving waves, and the hopes of the young, I thought it made a good photo for the first day of a new year.
Tonight (or this afternoon depending on where you live) the Ducks and Longhorns will be locking horns (or webbed feet or something) in a consolation prize for Oregon. It’s not what the Ducks were hoping for, but the season won’t be a complete loss with a bowl victory.
I’m not committed on an NCAA Division I college team to root for at this point, but Ryan has been accepted to the University of Oregon so I may end up becoming a Duck fan beginning next school year.
Today’s photo is from our drive back to Oregon from our Christmas in Santa Barbara. We headed up California State Route 1 (AKA Highway 1 or Coast Highway) and stopped off for a beautiful sunset in Carmel. Just before that sunset, today’s photo happened.
According to the TripAdvisor website, the best attraction in Santa Barbara is the nearly one-hundred-year-old Santa Barbara Courthouse. Today’s photo is about 200 degrees of the view from the top of the clock tower. The Santa Ynez Mountains, pictured in this panorama, were our next stop.
We are heading to Southern California for Christmas this year. It has been more than a year and a half since I have been there (when I took today’s photo), and it will be the first time I have been to Santa Barbara, which is where we will be staying. Hopefully the weather is at least seasonably warm, with maybe even a little unseasonably warmness thrown in for good measure.
