Last week, after a bit of rain, I headed outside to check out the bokeh (ボケ) on my newest lens. The tree branches were covered in rain drops and were running towards me rather than horizontally. I focused on a single drop in the middle (just below and left of center) at f/1.4 with the above result.

Southern Oregon University Women's Rugby vs. OIT - March 10, 2012
On our way back to Ashland from Bandon, Ellie and Ryan saw a sign for the Wildlife Safari. Yes, Oregon has a safari. They wanted to go. We told them they had already been, but they had no memory of it as it had been probably 8 or 9 years. So, since we had nothing else planned for the day and the weather was great, we pulled in.
Wildlife Safari in Winston, Oregon was funner than expected. It was more expensive than expected too at almost $20 a person. With little kids it isn’t nearly as fun as with teenagers. Who would have thought?
Ryan drove, and I took photos through my open, passenger seat window. Shortly after taking this photo, this camel stuck his head inside the car through my window. That was a little bit scary and quite stinky.
P.S. That’s a yak in the mirror.
I watched rugby for the first time ever yesterday. I believe this was the first match that SOU Women’s Rugby has ever had in Ashland. The weather was great, and the photography was fun. For sports photography, rugby can’t be beat for tackles, hits, and facial expressions.
I have a few dozen more, but for today I’ll just leave you with these.
Because of a Friday meeting, I arrived in Bandon a day after the rest of my family. The next morning I headed out for a walk at dawn on the beach. One of the first things I discovered a few dozen yards down the beach was this. It brought a big smile to my face as Ellie has been writing this in the sand at every beach she goes to since she was about five years old. It’s good to see that even though she has been a teenager for a while now she is holding true to her core principles. 😉
I have yet to attend a show at Johnny B’s that started within an hour of when it was supposed to. I thought Fates Medallion were playing first so when I arrived at just before 10 p.m. I was a bit surprised to see Uzi and the other Fates Medallion guys outside with their gear. I figured they must have went on right at 9 and I missed them. As it turns out, they were playing second even though the flyer appeared to indicate otherwise.
First up was Sarcalogos, a mostly black metal twosome from Portland or Washington or somewhere to the north. Bands usually don’t fit well on Johnny B’s tiny stage, but a band with only two members fit just fine. Spellcaster members couldn’t move with five crammed up there.
Sarcalogos consists of just Dave Phillips (aka Sarcophilus Satanicus) on drums and Skylar Guzman (aka Sarcalogos Occisor) on guitar and vocals.
They seemed like pretty nice dudes. I hope they play in Southern Oregon again.
Last night Johnny B’s had a few metal acts playing so I headed up to Medford to try out my new Sigma 85mm f/1.4 lens.
Spellcaster was the headliner. I very much enjoyed their performance.
