Today’s photo comes from a different season. Spring and autumn are my favorite times of year in Ashland. Spring frequently gets mixed up with winter, especially in March and April, leading to photos like this one with lush greens and snow.
Something from a hike on Mt. Ashland back in April today.
Not too far from Ashland, and not far from Crater Lake, you can find this spot which you will likely have to yourself.
Today’s photo comes from a little over five years ago. I rode through the Ashland watershed this past weekend–still as beautiful as ever.

About an hour and half drive south of Ashland on I-5 will put you in Castle Crags State Park. There are several hikes to choose from; we did Castle Dome and Indian Springs which total about 6 miles. That may not sound like much, but with over 2,200 feet of elevation gain (and, of course, descent as well) this is a strenuous hike. The views are totally worth it though.
Indian Springs is probably skipped by most, but I found that little piece of the hike to be totally worth it (on the way down).
