Brandi Carlile is coming back to Britt Festivals next Friday night (August 31, 2012) with The Barr Brothers opening up for her. Tickets are still available here.
Today’s photo is from her performance last year when she opened for Ray LaMontagne.
I’ll have some fresh photos of her on this blog from next Friday’s show in a couple weeks. She’ll be playing after the sun goes down this time so things will look different.
Moments after taking today’s photograph at the Wildlife Safari in Winston, Oregon (about 2 hours north of Ashland on I-5), this emu seemed to think that our Prius was his mate. We couldn’t really move for a while (until he finished his business) without running him over.
I’m traveling at the moment (in California to see Iron Maiden tonight and catch an A’s game tomorrow) so I’m leaving you with a traveling photo. Today’s pic is an aerial view of Portland. The bridges, from left to right, are the Marquam Bridge (I-5), the Hawthorne Bridge, and the Morrison Bridge.
Tomorrow is the big day–Southern Oregon University’s annual commencement. I’ll post photos from the 2012 graduation ceremony on the blog beginning tomorrow afternoon.

I went to The Secret Sisters website to see what they are up to, and it looks like the site hasn’t been updated in six months. However, from their wiki page it seems they got one of their songs onto The Hunger Games soundtrack so you’d think that would be newsworthy.

Six months ago today David Grubbs was brutally murdered on Ashland’s bike path, just before the sun set, while walking home from work at Shop’n Kart. The police haven’t been able to solve the crime. The reward is now over $20,000, but it doesn’t seem anyone has any information available to claim it.
It’s now May so the temperatures are a bit warmer on average, but that doesn’t mean we’ve seen the last of the snow or that there isn’t still a lot of snow on Mt. Ashland. In fact, there is more snow up on Mount A now (and the ski season ended on April 22) than when I took today’s photo back in January, when there was such a lack of snow on Mt. Ashland the slopes were not open for skiing. For the photo just after this one click here.
Tonight is the annual International Show on the Southern Oregon University campus. I will be out of town and unable to attend this year’s performance. If you are in Ashland, you should check it out. The International Show is free, but sometimes it fills up well before and people are turned away. The show kicks off at 7 p.m. in the SOU Music Recital Hall. Get there by 6:40 if you want to be sure of getting a seat. Arrive before 6:30 (when the doors open) if you want a good seat.
Today’s photo of Ellie is from the archives. Diamond Lake and Mount Bailey won’t look like this for another four or five months. As we continue through this cold and wet Spring Break one can only dream of the slowly approaching summer.
