Ashland High School volleyball
Yesterday was a pretty good day for my teams. The Ashland High School volleyball team won to improve their league record to 5-1. They play at Eagle Point on Tuesday night at 5:30.
SOU football won to go 5-0 on the season.
SOU volleyball won too, good for a 6-1 record in their conference.
The bad news is SOU soccer did not win, nor did my A’s.

These two 17-year olds from Bend can really bring it. I haven’t heard a high-school-aged band sound this good since I saw The Legacy (pre-Testament) play back in 1983 or Death Angel in 1987.

SOU volleyball – Brookelynn Cole #10, Emma Gasman #11, and Motade Atanda #3

Hot starts to the 2014 campaign by Cole, Gasman, and Atanda have propelled the Raiders to an 8-2 record and into the national rankings for the first time this year.
Eastern Oregon is ahead of them in the rankings at #14, and they will be playing in Ashland on 9/26. Tomorrow night (9/10), Oregon Tech will be playing in Ashland. Come on out for a 7 p.m. start.

Motade executed 60% of her attacks on Thursday and Friday nights. (A hitting percentage over 25% is considered excellent, and an average hitting percentage is below 20%.)
SOU Volleyball will play at home against OIT this Wednesday night.

Wehrmacht @ Musichead (Medford, Oregon – 7/10/14)
It’s been nearly a month since Raptor and Wehrmacht buzzed through Southern Oregon. Other than the one photo I posted earlier, I hadn’t looked at those photos until today. Looks like I have a dozen or more decent ones that I need to process…
I’ll get to the rest later. For now I will leave you with this one of the end of the evening. Wehrmacht has a tradition of calling members of the audience to the stage at the end of their set. This makes more sense in venues with a large stage. Musichead’s stage is barely big enough for a small band, let alone audience members and a 5-piece band. However, that didn’t stop Wehrmacht from packing the stage. James Lind, of Sylent Storm, did a fantastic Paul Di’Anno impression as the guest vocalist on this Iron Maiden cover. Members of Raptor can also be seen on stage in this photo.

My neighbors’ flamingos briefly went back to their Memorial Day look for the 4th of July, but last week they decided to go with a second summer look. The first summer look, you may remember, featured a hula theme. This new look has them slipping on their flip-flops, shades, and heading to the pool.
The Delineators with the burrito man @ Club 66
The Delineators are always fun to watch and easy to listen to with their surf rock tunes. But my favorite part of their set is the Blue Oyster Cult medley in which an audience member is handed a cowbell and told to go at it. At their show earlier this week that person turned out to be one of the finest burrito makers north of the Mexican border. I don’t know his name, but you can find him in the food court of the Stevenson Union once SOU begins again in fall (assuming he didn’t graduate).
