Ashland, Oregon – December 2024
Today’s photo comes from a short hike we did a bit over a week ago on the west side of Lithia Park. We were on the TID (AKA “ditch trail”) between the Granite Street Trail and Hearts Nature Trail. (More on hiking in this area can be found here.) The scene looked as if someone threw lit candles dripping with hot wax at this tree.

The white house where the rainbow ends dates from the 19th Century. The current owner’s mother, Clara Fader, died recently at the age of 107 after living in that house for 80 years!

If memory serves, I took today’s photo more so that I could look up the names of the mountains I was unfamiliar with than for the scene.
Is that Black Mountain just to the left of Pilot Rock (in the foreground) and Cottonwood Peak just to the right?

Looking east in Ashland, Oregon
I’ve posted this view many times before, usually a sunrise. However, sometimes a look to the east can be nice even as the sun is setting in the opposite direction.
Lithia Park (October 17, 2024)
I brought my camera to the park last week. Very few trees had changed color then, but it won’t be long until Lithia Park is at its peak. Look closely for one of the dozen or so deer I encountered.
