Bert “Campy” Campaneris Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame plaque in SFO
Today’s photo comes from a trip that had me passing though the San Francisco Airport in 2014. Campy was a legend in my 7 and 8-year old mind. With all of the Cuban baseball talk of late, and President Obama’s current trip to Cuba, I thought today’s photo was timely.

Two weeks until opening day. Hopefully the A’s do better this year. Last year they fired Gallego in August, the third base coach at the time, after he sent in a bunch of runners who got thrown out at the plate.
Over the past 10 years or so I’ve changed TV service providers every two to three years due to price. They (Charter, DirecTV, Dish) usually give you a good deal the first year, an OK deal the second year, and then a lousy deal after that. At least that’s been my experience. So usually in year three I switch.
I just began year three with DirecTV and watched my bill go to over $100 a month (from under $50 a month the first year and under $80 a month in the second year). So I called them to tell them I was cancelling if they didn’t give me a break. They did. By agreeing to stick with them for another 12 months they are cutting my bill by $40 a month. I’m happy, and I don’t have to go through the hassle of switching.
If you are in a similar situation, give them a call. If they don’t give you the discount, ask specifically for the loyalty discount ($10 off per month) and the additional 12-month agreement discount ($30 off per month). You have to be with them for at least two years to get these discounts.

You get an additional $10 off for 10 months by using that link than you would just going to their site or calling in based on a mailer. After you’ve been a customer for a couple years be sure to call them to get your rate back down to a reasonable number.

Tonkotsu White Bowl @ Ramen Parlor (San Mateo, California)
About six months ago I enjoyed a fantastic bowl of ramen at Ramen Parlor when I was in the San Francisco Bay Area. Today I went there again and came away a bit disappointed. I asked for mild spice and the bowl was very spicey. If I ever go there again I’ll go with no spice. The spice is on the table so you can add as little as you want rather than risk someone in the back putting way too much on.
Could I live happily ever after on the banks of one of Norway’s amazing fjords? Yes I could.
