Vondelpark’s flower garden

The first time I heard the drummer Gene Hoglan was back in 1989. The drumming on Dark Angel’s “Leave Scars” blew me away. Since then he has become one of the most prolific drummers in the business with more than 30 albums to his credit including appearing on releases by Death, Strapping Young Lad / Devin Townsend, Dethklok, and now Testament. Kids these days hear Gene Hoglan’s drums (not voice) when they see Pickles on Metalocalypse.
The first time I saw Hoglan in person was walking down the street in broad daylight in Sacramento on my way to this show. I knew who he was, but this was not how I wanted to see such a legend. I prefer today’s photo which puts him back into his proper place–somewhat hidden and fairly mysterious behind his drum kit.
Another surfing photo from my trip to Southern California earlier this year… I took this pic from the Huntington Beach Pier.
Miguel Cabrera led the American League in batting average, home runs, and RBIs this season. No one had done so since 1967. He will likely win the MVP award as well. I am hoping the A’s pitchers can hold him in check for another couple days.
“Will work for food.” If I were to ever go into business as a photographer, that is what I would put on my card. Today, that is exactly what I did. A friend of mine is starting a bakery and wanted some photos of some of her delectable creations. I was more than happy to oblige, and I ended up going home with many of the items I photographed.
What does this have to do with travel or Japan? Not much although my friend is Japanese (born in America).
November 2012 update: Jolene’s Sweets is now open for business.
