One of my favorite bands from this year’s Metal Magic Festival. Coordinated outfits you occasionally see from metal bands, but I don’t know if I’ve ever seen matching guitars from a band before.
Gluggafoss (AKA Merkjárfoss) is probably not normally worth the effort as it isn’t on the ring road, and is a bit of a detour to get to, but I was staying at a nearby guesthouse anyway that night. The upside is that there are few tourists.
Time of year may also play into your decision to visit or not. Most photos on the internet show a more depressing (brown) scene. I think it’s only this green in late July and August.

I had a list of things I wanted to see while in Saint Petersburg, Russia earlier this month. The metro stations wasn’t one of them, but with two days of lousy weather in a row, with the first day already spent at an unplanned stop (The Hermitage Museum), I needed to find something not outdoors that wouldn’t have me standing around in another museum. Turns out there is a museum of sorts, that allows sitting much of the time, that’s deep underground in St. Petersburg. The cost was nice too (45 rubles or about US $.70).
The Soviets really did a number on their metro stations in the 1950s. Each is unique and many are rather decadent. I set out for the “two best” in Saint Petersburg. Along the way I jumped out at several unplanned stops that looked amazing or interesting as well. The Narvskaya Station (На́рвская) was one of those not considered to be one of the best, but wow was it fascinating.

I’m waiting in the Prague airport (along with several bands and hundreds of festival goers) for a day of planes and airports. I feel brutally assaulted as I’m operating on three hours of sleep and probably about 15 hours of total sleep over the past three nights, not to mention long days of shows from 10 a.m. until 3 a.m. Actually I never saw a 10 a.m. show or made it past 2 a.m. but still…
