Shirakawago Gassho Zukuri

The gassho-zukuri (合掌造) style minka houses have vast roofs. The name gassho zukuri comes from the similarity of the roof shape to two hands in prayer.

On a rare, good-weather day I caught a bus heading north from Gwangju to Naejangsan National Park (내장산). Despite being stung by a giant insect, that I’ve never seen before or since, it was one of my most memorable days in Korea.
