Dinner between storms

Dining room with a view

While in Reno last month for Ellie’s volleyball tournament, we headed over to Tahoe one afternoon when the morning wave was done for volleyball play. The wind at Tahoe was fantastic, as was the sky, and everything else as we were between two storms. Although it was about 40 degrees, it felt much colder, unless the wind stopped for a bit and the sun came out from behind a cloud, in which case it felt much warmer. Everything about this late afternoon and evening was a trip.

Today’s photo is from the Lone Eagle Grille, part of the Hyatt Regency on the northern Nevada side of Lake Tahoe.

Today (May 5) is one of the strangest holidays in the USA, featuring long lines at Mexican restaurants and an increase in Corona and margarita sales; Mexican Independence Day is actually September 16. I was in Guanajuato on September 16 many years ago and the celebration is crazy. Since the revolt happened near and through Guanajuato I suppose the party there is a bit bigger than anywhere else in Mexico.

Expo ’74 began 41 years ago today

This neck of the woods, from May 4, 1974 to November 3, 1974, was a bustling center of activity for the world’s fair. We visited Spokane, for the first time, this past March when I took today’s photo. Spokane was between storms on this day so the sky was fantastic.
