My favorite lens is on sale

The Nikon 85mm f/1.8G AF-S FX Nikkor Lens is a must-have lens. I use it more than any other. If you have a Nikon DSLR, and don’t have this lens, you are missing out. For photos I’ve taken with this lens click here and here. Besides the fabulous image quality, this lens is small, light, and the autofocus is super fast. I’m not sure how much longer this sale is going to last, but this is a great deal.

Previously I only used the .jpg files from my camera. Then I began shooting in RAW for difficult lighting situations. Slowly I’ve come to the point where I only shoot in RAW. Perhaps today’s comparisons can give you an idea as to why.

AF-S Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8G ED lens for Nikon for sale

AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED

As mentioned previously, I have purchased a Nikkor 20mm f/1.8G lens and no longer need my 14-24mm f/2.8G lens. It works perfectly, includes front and rear caps, and can be yours for $1500–$500 less than the new price. The lens has never been dropped or abused. Recent sample images taken with it can be seen here.

Nikon AF Nikkor 24mm f/2.8D lens for sale

nikkor 24mm f/2.8d lens nikon af-s

As mentioned previously, I have purchased a Nikkor 20mm f/1.8G lens and no longer need my 24mm f/2.8D lens. It works perfectly, includes everything (the box, receipt, warranty, instructions, etc.) that came with it new (except the front lens cap), and can be yours for $250–more than $100 less than I paid for it. Most of its 5-year warranty still remains. Recent sample images taken with it can be seen here.

nikon d750

Nikon D750

I have been very happy with my Nikon D600 the past two years. However, Nikon has announced the new D750 which will begin shipping later this month. I don’t really care about the tilting, vari-angle LCD and built-in Wi-Fi connectivity, but the higher fps (6.5 vs. 5.5 on the D600) and higher ISO capabilities with a slight decrease in weight look attractive. I use my D600 in the ISO 3200 – 6400 range a lot. I’m hoping I can obtain similar results to that range in the 6400-12800 range on the D750. The autofocusing system is also supposed to be much improved on the D750 compared to the D600. The D750 should be at least as good focusing as the focusing system found on the D810.

Nikkor (Nikon) 20mm f/1.8G lens

Nikkor (Nikon) 20mm f/1.8G lens

I have never been perfectly happy with my 14-24mm f/2.8G lens or my 24mm f/2.8D lens. The former is heavy and large; the latter isn’t great at f/2.8. Photos at 14mm are always at least somewhat distorted and frequently very distorted. Because of that I don’t use my 14-24mm at 14mm very often anymore.

After running some numbers I have determined that I can sell my D600, 14-24mm f/2.8G lens, and 24mm f/2.8D lens for about the same amount a new D750 and new 20mm f/1.8G lens will cost so that is the plan. The 20mm f/1.8G weighs a little more than the 24mm f/2.8D, but much less than the 14-24mm f/2.8G lens so I think I will be quite happy with that trade off despite losing some versatility in the ultra wide zoom.

I’m also hoping to pick up a Tamron 150-600mm VC Lens soon.
