Another ridiculously amazing show by Roger Waters last week. This was my sixth time seeing him, and every time blows my mind. I didn’t have a camera on me this go around so I have only these cell phone pics.

Comfortably Numb

Here’s a video someone else took from a different angle to give you a feel for the visuals:

And a very short clip I took near the end:

Roger Waters wrote “Pigs” in 1977 (for Pink Floyd). Everyone laughed when he performed it at Desert Trip with these images of Trump on the (“Animals” cover) stage. Everyone laughed because they didn’t imagine Trump would actually be elected.

Today, 40 years later, the words seem more applicable than ever. And by “today” I don’t mean “now”, I mean “TODAY”, January 20, 2017.

“Big man, pig man, ha ha, charade you are
You well heeled big wheel, ha ha, charade you are
And when your hand is on your heart
You’re nearly a good laugh
Almost a joker
With your head down in the pig bin
Saying “keep on digging”
Pig stain on your fat chin
What do you hope to find?
When you’re down in the pig mine
You’re nearly a laugh
You’re nearly a laugh
But you’re really a cry.

You’re nearly a good laugh
Almost worth a quick grin
You like the feel of steel
You’re hot stuff with a hat pin
And good fun with a hand gun
You’re nearly a laugh
You’re nearly a laugh
But you’re really a cry.
Hey you White House, ha ha, charade you are”

Roger Waters had a lot of anti-Trump propaganda during his set at Desert Trip. At the time (October 2016) I thought we’d never have to see it again, but I’m guessing he will now be able to use it on his upcoming tour as well. That’s too bad.

Picked up tickets for Roger Waters’ “Us+Them Tour” for June of next year in San Jose. I’m hoping he does some “Amused to Death” on this tour. Can’t wait.

I wouldn’t have gone to Desert Trip if Roger Waters hadn’t been on the bill. The thought of seeing him again is what interested me from the outset. I’ve seen him four times before, each time bigger and better than the last. I’ve been to hundreds of, if not over a thousand, shows in my lifetime, and those five shows are all in my Top 10.

The Desert Trip Photography Experience

The images found at The Desert Trip Photography Experience don’t appear to be available online. For instance, this one of Roger, taken by Michael Putland when Pink Floyd played at the 1975 Knebworth Festival in the UK, I hadn’t seen before and can’t find online.

I just got back from an unforgettable weekend down in the Palm Springs area of Southern California. The draw of course was Desert Trip, three nights featuring Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, Neil Young, Paul McCartney, The Who, and Roger Waters. I’ll post photos from each over the next few weeks.

Although nothing can come close to describing the amazingness of the Roger Waters’ set–not photos, video, or words–you really had to be in the middle of it to fully appreciate what he orchestrated, here is a decent write up in LA Times.
