Beacon Hill

Our trip to the East Coast (New York and Boston) came to an end yesterday. Today’s photo is of the place we lodged at in Boston, 23 Temple Street. I’ll post more photos from Boston here.

Coquille River sunrise

I have trouble sleeping on vacation. I don’t know if it’s the different bed or what, but my vacation insomnia allows me to get photos like this when I’m travelling as I’m usually up and about before dawn. I only had my wide angle lens with me at the time, which is a bit of a shame as a close up of the fog in the distant trees with this kind of lighting may have been pretty cool if I had a lens with more reach.

Party panorama

ashland oregon panorama photomerge photoshop

Today’s photo is of about 250-300 degrees worth of landscape. This picture is a photomerge from this past Saturday at our school (SOU), year-end party. I took about 11 photos to make up this panorama. Unfortunately, I took them horizontally (and I should have taken them vertically to get in more sky/ground) which meant that in order to crop them into a proper, rectangular pic I’d have to crop out the sun. Instead I just left the photomerged version as is without a crop.

As this photo was taken from the south side of Ashland, you can’t see Mt. Ashland (the Siskiyous are in the way) or many of the other items you normally see in my panoramas taken from the east side of Ashland like the Ashland Springs Hotel, etc. You can see Pilot Rock to the left if you click on the photo for a much higher resolution version.

Ashland High School graduation ceremony 2012

I said I wasn’t going to AHS’s graduation ceremony, but I ended up taking my daughter to Lithia Park for the last few minutes after all.

Ashland High School football field

Ellie has started conditioning for AHS volleyball next school year. The workouts are early morning. While waiting for her to come out I wandered over to the nearby football field as the sun was just coming up. I couldn’t fit everything into the photo even with my ultra-wide angle lens so this is a photomerge of two wide-angle photos.

Floater @ OIT

oregon institute of technology floater band

Rob Wynia of Floater

I headed over the Green Springs on Highway 66 last night with my son and his friend to see Floater perform at Oregon Tech (OIT) in Klamath Falls. I have never really been to Klamath Falls before even though it less than two hours from Ashland. I have been through it a few times, but the last time was probably five years ago. So this was my first time on the OIT campus. Floater basically played at the end of the hallway in the student union building, not your typical concert venue.

oregon tech floater pete drums

The stage was only a foot off the ground (if that), there were no spot lights, and strong sunlight was coming in through the blinds behind the band for the first few songs so conditions and lighting were really poor for photography or for just seeing the band (as you’ll especially note in the video at the end).

The crowd was enthusiastic and appreciative. That’s my son, Ryan, in the middle there (with all of the hair) trying to get a mosh pit going. I’m proud to say he succeeded.

I’ll process a few more photos of Floater from last night and post them tomorrow.

Back to school today after a long, holiday weekend. Many colleges and universities are already done for the school year, but SOU is on the quarter system which means another couple weeks of school.

Hyatt Lake

Hyatt Lake - Southern Oregon

Today’s photo is from the side of Hyatt Lake opposite the resort side. Hence, you can frequently find yourself alone, as I did, in this location. Very tranquil and lovely… Something swam by me in the water soon after I took this pic. I followed to see what it was, but after a few dozen yards things got swampy and I could go no farther. I think it was an otter.
